A delightful, almost a compulsive liar young and lively Kalpana, earns the nick-name JHOOTHI. She often flouted common notions of truth for she considered that a made-up story which makes life better was more true in essence than truth itself.

Her elder sister, Alpana was in love with Rasik. The family was not awate of it. Alpana’s marriage was arranged to a young doctor Anil. To save the suffering sister, Kalpana invents a harrowing incident. She alleges that after an injury on her leg she had been to the same Doctor, who in presence of examining her had made indecent advances. The marriage was immediately cancelled. Anjana was saved. But Kalpana gets herself caught in the web of her own lies. She had an encounter with the same doctor whom she had so defamed. She falls in love and has to make amends with the help of other lies.

And then, to help out and rescue Anil’s drug addict brother from an involvement in a murder charge she tells some awful lies which not merely disgrace her in the eyes of everyone but brings her to a brink of disaster……
