A noted name in both Punjabi and Hindi cinema, Shanti Prakash Bakshi started his career as a scenarist for Harcharan Singh Kwatra. He was the scriptwriter for Pilpili Saheb (1954) and Teesmar Khan (1954). Other films as a writer include Baradari (1955), Ishq Par Zor Nahin (1970) and the Indo-Soviet hit Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor (1980). He is primarily remembered for directing the film Koday Shah (1953). He directed other films like Mr Chakram (1955) and Sun To Le Hasina (1958). In Punjabi cinema his debut directorial was Ashtalli (1954). Other films include Pardesi Dhola (1959), Heer Syal (1960), Sassi Punnu (1965), and Munda Naram Te Kudi Garam (1986).
