D D Kashyap, film director, screenwriter and film producer, was born in 1910 in Jalalpur, United Provinces, British India. He started off as a screenwriter, penning Aadmi (1939). Acting and assisting on Padosi (1941), followed by 10 o’clock (1942), he turned solo director. Among the films he is credited with directing are Nai Kahani (1943), Chand (1944), Nargis (1946), Aaj Ki Raat (1948), Bari Behen (1949), Kamal Ka Phool (1950), Do Sitare (1951), Aaram (1951), Badnam (1952), Naya Ghar (1953), Shama Parwana (1954), Halaku (1956), Aan Baan (1956), Maya (1961), and Dulhan Ek Raat Ki (1967). He also produced some of the films he had directed such as Bari Behen, Aaram, and Shama Parwana, while also writing Dulhan Ek Raat Ki, Maya, Bari Behen, and Chand. He also featured as an actor in the 1941 film Padosi

D D Kashyap passed away on 4 May in 1988 in Bombay.
