Seth Kishan Kapoor was murdered in a moving train exactly on the night when his young and beautiful wife Shobha (Alka) was celebrating the first anniversary of their happy marriage !

It was rumoured that Seth Kishan Kapoor possessed 'smuggled gold' worth one crore of rupees which even the C.B.I. were not able to locate.

This very gold had turned Ajit (Ajit) the closest friend of Kishan Kapoor, into his bitterest enemy. An attempt by Kishan Kapoor to throw him into the High Seas had failed earlier.

Amar (Kiran Kumar) a professional criminal and a 'run-away' from jail was hired by Ajit to find out as to where his partner had hidden the precious metal.  Amar, disguised as an old friend of the Kapoor family won the confidence of the young widow, but was unable to take out the secret of the fold from her.

Getting the news of her brother's murder, Monica (Radha Saluja), a drunkard sister of the late Kapoor rushed back to India from London - not to mourn the death of her brother, but to dispose off the ancestral property which actually stood in her name. Shobha was thrown out of the house and given  shelter by Amar.

Monica having disposed off her properties was robbed of her money by her fiance Manoj (Danny) just a few hours before her departure for London.

In this hour of distress Manoj came to her rescue. Generally both fell in love.

Shobha was also closer to Amar. One day she agreed to disclose the secret of the 'Smuggled Gold' if Amar agreed to marry her. Amar, on purpose consented for the marriage.

Charged with revenge, Monica got Amar arrested exactly at the time when he was getting married to Shobha.

Shobha fell into the clothes of Ajit who was bent upon having the gold at any price. Aid Ajit really get the gold? Did the gold actually exist??? What happened to the affair of Amar and Monica????

"Chalaak" would provide answers to all these questions.
