Cinemaazi Studio | Angry Young Man | Gautam Chintamani

16 Jun, 2020 | Cinemaazi Studio with Gautam Chintamani
When we think of 70's Hindi cinema, the first thing to pop in mind is the smouldering rage of the angry young man. Films like Zanjeer (1973), Deewaar (1975), Trishul (1978), Kala Patthar (1979) and Shakti (1982) will end up defining that era. But was the angry young man simply a product of the socio-political conditions of the pre-Emergency years? Or did it have a longer history? Beginning from the coming of the anti-hero in Kismet (1943), to films like Mother India (1957), Gunga Jumna (1961), Satyakam (1967), Mere Apne (1971), Gautam Chintamani traces a pre-history of the character and explores what made the character so attractive to audiences of its time.
