Prakash Thapa was a Hindi film actor who had a prominent career in the 1970s. He was born on 18th June 1930 in Muga Gau, Dhankutta, Nepal. A man of many talents, he first joined the film industry as an actor with Milan Ki Raat (1967) starring alongside Sharmila Tagore and Sanjay Khan. His filmography as an actor boasts of titles such as Holi Ayee Re (1970), Aan Milo Sajna (1970), Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971), Ek Se Badhkaar Ek (1976), Do Anjaane (1976), and Imman Dharam (1977). 

Yadav Khare played a significant role in his career by encouraging Thapa to make a mark for himself in Nepali Film Industry. He made his directorial debut with Man Ko Bandh (1973). Sindoor (1980), Jeevan Rekha (1982), Kanyadaan (1991) and Nata Ragat Ko (1999) are some other films that he had directed. Sindoor was a highly successful film which ran in the theatres for 25 weeks. 

In the 90s, he wrote for few films like Kanyadaan (1991), Adhikar (1993) and Mahamaya (1995).

His younger brother Pratap Thapa lives in Nepal. Contrary to popular belief, he was not related to veteran filmmaker B S Thapa

Prakash Thapa passed away on 26 May 2004 in Kathmandu in Nepal.
