Muriel Alexander, also known as Miss Meera was a singer-actor of early cinema. She was born on 10 November 1919 to a well-respected family. Her father worked as an accountant in the General’s office. E Alexander, her brother was a national level cricket player. She graduated from her Intermediate science course from Benaras Hindu University. Through an association with a Mr Seal who worked as a manager in Adarsh Chitra, she got the opportunity to act in her first film Dhuwandhar (1935), although there are no copies to verify if she sang in the film too. She got credited as a singer-actor for the first time in the 1938 film Bhabhi where she voiced three solo songs. In her career, she appeared in Ranjit, Prakash and Minerva Movietone’s films. Some other films where she performed are Nirmala (1938), Vachan (1938), Taatar Ka Chor (1940), Chingaari (1940), Meri Duniya (1942), Ji Haan (1945), and Sham Savera (1946).
