Ganpatrao Bakre was an actor during the silent era of Indian cinema. He was a handsome and popular hero of silent films. Among the films he acted in are the Baburao Painter-directorials Sairandhri (1920), and Surekha Haran (1921). Bakre played King Veerat in the Maharashtra Film Company production Sairandhri, based on an episode from the Mahabharata which revolves around the story of the villainous Keechak's lusting after Sairandhri, the persona adopted by Draupadi in her 13th year of exile. Surekha Haran was also a mythological, which told the tale of the marriage of Surekha, the daughter of Balarama, to Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna. Ganpatrao Bakre passed away on 9 March in 1983.
