“STAR” is the fascinating story of the making of a musical star. Dev Kumar (Kumar Gaurav) has ambitions of becoming a top musical star, but he receives little encouragement from his family consisting of his father (A.K. Hangal), his mother (Dina Pathak), and his affectionate brother Shiv Kumar (Raaj Kiran). His family members want him to continue his education and obtain college degree. They want him to be like his brother Shiv Kumar who is well settled in life.

Dev has a close friend Salim (Raja) who writes lyrics that Dev sets to his music. Salim inspires Dev to persevere—Salim sees big dreams for Dev and tells him that a day will come when his words and Dev’s music and voice will combine to conquer the world. But before their dreams come true, before Dev can sing the immortal song that Salim has written, Salim dies in a tragic road accident.

Dev looks around for opportunity to make the grade as a singer—he tries his luck in a club owned by Rana (Syed Jaffery), but is turned down. Then he goes to another club where Maya (Rati Agnihotri) is the singer. There Dev gives an audition and is taken as a singer. Gradually he clicks in a big way. This club becomes very popular but Rana’s club goes down. Now Rana decides to get Dev to sing in his club. Dev refuses and this infuriates Rana because he is not used to being turned down. He decides that if he cannot get Dev for his club, then Dev will not sing for any other club… Dev will simply not sing again! Dev, now a popular teenage singing star, falls in love with Maya, but Maya later falls in love with Shiv, whom Dev introduces to her as his loving brother.

Dev is beaten up by Rana’s gang and loses his voice—and now Shiv decides to seek revenges on Rana and his gang. Shiv is beaten up and is in a serious condition, lying in a coma in a hospital. Dev regains his voice just before the final day of the All India Music Contest—and then he sings his life’s greatest song—a song blessed with Maya’s heartfelt good wishes—the same song that had been written by his friend Salim before his tragic death.

The musical miracle which enables Shiv to come out of his coma and how Dev becomes the greatest musical STAR of the country constitute the exciting finale of this song filled motion picture story.
