ContinueOur country "Bharat" had and still has the privilege of producing immortal characters. Anusuya was one of them. She was jewel among saties. She had the honour of preaching Sita at Panchvati. It was she who brought Narmada from Obscurity to distinction and fondled Brahma, Vishnu and Shankar as her children.
According to "Shiv-Puran", while Shankar was once going to Himalayas along with Uma, he found Rama lamenting for Sita at Panchvati, who had been abducted by Ravan. Inspite of Shankar's endeavour, Uma refused to believe that Rama was an incarnation of God Vishnu. She decided to put him to test. She approached him as Sita, but to her dismay, Rama addressed her as Mother. Uma acknowledged her mistake but Shankar could not be appeased. The relation between them as wife and husband was severed. Thereafter Meghnad and Ravan were killed respectively by Laxman and Rama in the battle field. Sita had to undergo the ordeal of "agnipariksha" She emerged successfully. Rama with Laxman and Sita returned to Ayodhya. He was installed to throne ceremoniously. Everybody was happy and contended, when suddenly a catastrophe took place. A washerman suspected the loyalty of Sita. Rama had no other alternative but to exile her, though pregnant.
Time elapsed. Sita gave birth to Lawa and Kush in "Valmiki Ashram".
Reluctantly Rama had to perform "AshwamedhAgna". What an irony of fate - Rama and Lava-Kush stood face to face in the battle field. The situation was saved by the timely intervention of Valmiki. Lava-Kush recognised Rama as their father. Sita could not be persuaded. Instead of returning to Ayodhya, she solicited Mother Earth. Her solicitation was granted. She went underground keeping her memory immortal and perpetual.
