She sat in a dark corner of her cell. It was past midnight yet she did not desire to sleep. She knew she had only few more hours of life left, then she would be led to the gallows - to eternal sleep - to eternal peace.

Her thoughts went back to those happy days when she was not the dreadful Kaali Ganga but Gangavati. She remembered her mother and her two brothers Govinda and Nandu. Govinda the headstrong and Nandu the gentle. Life was roses and when Shiva came to her village he promised her love.

Then one day her headstrong brother Govinda came in confrontation with Hukumchand who was the judge, the jury and hangman of their village. The roses became thorns. The pyre of her mother was still smoldering when Govinda was put into prison and gentle Nandu was crushed to death. She screamed for help but there was none to help her from Hukumchand and his three sons.

Gangavati did get help but from terrible Kaali. Terrible for those who were inhuman. Thus Gangavati became Kaali Ganga. She must have her revenge upon those who had wronged her, branded her like a beast, killed her brother Nandu and crippled her brother Govinda.

Like Kaali she spread death till one day she found in her path Shiva. Shiva, her lover... Shiva the custodian of law. It was his duty to stop her, to arrest her and take her to the gallows. She sat in dark corner of her cell. Few more hours of life left and then Shiva would come and lead her to her death. Will Kaali Ganga hang like a common criminal? Yes, she had killed but she had killed like Kaali and Kaali was not a criminal. Yet hand in hand her lover led her to her death.
