Shekhar is a Police Officer in the Bombay Police Force. He is an honest and dedicated man married to Meena from her a daughter Babli - They make an enviable family. Kadam, his junior officer is the only real friend he has.

All is well with Shekhar and then suddenly one day his life begins to fall apart.

Editor Ritesh Nandy is killed. Geeta, an expatriate Indian who is passing through India on her way back to the U.S.A. accidentally becomes the only witness of this gory murder. Shekhar is given charge of the case to track down the killer. The killer realizing he is in trouble bounds Geeta. Threatening her of dire consequences if she persists to live in the country.

Shekhar prevails upon her to stand by the machinery of law and help them bring the culprit to book. A fierce duel between Shakhar and the dark forces commences, evil has an edge over good, Geeta's security begins to corrode. Shekhar oversteps the role of a protector. Shekhar and Geeta succumb to the passion ignited by the situation. Guilt-ridden he confesses to Meena about his crime - the walls of their happy home begin to crack. Meena walks out on. Shekhar unable to handle the truth. Shekhar descends into a quagmire of despair...
