Kailash was looking after the prosperous business of his father, Ramdas, while Kamal, his younger brother, was studying in college. Their house was devoid of peace because Ramdas's wife, Shantha, was a domineering woman who kept shouting at everyone except her only daughter, Bhairavi whom she spoilt by undue dotage. Bhairavi, though married, would not go to her husband, Sarang's place and was indulging in motiveless mischief. This mischief resulted in Kailash suspecting the relationship between his devoted wife, Sita and his brother Kamal. A victim of circumstances, Kailash rushed out of the house to kill himself on the day Kamal was married to Usha. Kailash was saved by a girl - Ragini, who was to have married him once. Sympathising with his agony, Ragini took a kindly interest in him to save him from ruin. Kailash mistook this for love and one day even proposed marriage with her.
Kamal felt that unless his father took charge of the house, it would go to pieces. He seized the earliest opportunity and triggered his father into action with the result that all the members of the family were put in their proper places. Meanwhile, a baby was born to Sita.
Kailash came home for money and in his fury disowned parentage of his child and went away. That night Sita tried to end her life. Kamal saved her just in time. When Kamal went to bring Kailash, Kailash accused him of having illicit relationship with Sita and beat him severely. When Sita learned of this, she rolled down the staircase.
Sarang dragged Kailash home and with Bhairavi's confessions, disproved all his allegations. Kailash rushed up to his room to seek forgiveness of Sita.
Kamal found that Sita would not look at or talk to him Deciding to live no more, he moved out. Kailash, Ramdas, Shantha, Usha — all tried to stop him; but he would not. Kailash begged of Sita to save Kamal. Sita came to herself and called out for Kamal. Sita bhabhi's call stopped Kamal and he came back. All the members of the family were united once again.
