Anil is a self respecting young man but after the death of his parents, he has to take shelter with his mother's brother and his wife. He lives there but bears his own expenses. On his own steam, he goes on to become a highly qualified student in college, marking a name for himself in studies, in sports and in cultural activities.

His co-student in college is a young girl, Mona, who is attracted towards him and ends up falling in love. She is the only daughter of the very rich, much respected industrialist, Dwarkadas. He is in a burry to get his daughter married so that he can have a resident son-in-law who can look after his varied business interest.

His manager, Gopal Das, who enjoys Dwarkadas's confidence and has an eye on his wealth is very keen that Mona should get married to his son, Ramesh. To this end, he manages to win over Dwarkadas's wife to side with him.

Meanwhile Anil and Mona get very close to each other. When Mona comes to know about the plans to get her married off, she brings Anil home to meet her father. Dwarkadas is very pleased and impressed by the meeting with Anil. Finding and opportunity at her house, Mona tells Anil of her desire to get married to him. Much as he loves her, Anil refuses because he feels Mona is simply too rich for him. Dwarkadas overhears their conversation and with his kind and gentle talks manages to convince Anil to marry Mona, become a resident, son-in-law and take over his varied business interests.

Anil and Mona get married and it's all roses for a while. They make a happy couple and Dwarkadas feels glad and relieved to have somebody who can share his financial responsibilities. But manager, Gopal Das, who was against this alliance right from the start manages to put seeds of hatred and distrust in the couple. Dwarkadas wife too poisons her daughter's mind against Anil and Mona begins to have serious differences with her husband.

Things come to a stage when Anil's self respect compels him to leave the house. But again Dwarkadas succeeds in convincing him to stay back. Anil agrees and decides to clear all misunderstandings with his clever strategy and planning while staying in his father-in-law's house. Gopal Das and his son are eventually exposed. Dwarkadas' wife and Mona realise what a blunder they were committing in getting influenced by Gopaldas vicious false stories.
Peace and happiness returns to the family.
