Raja (Govinda) was an orphan who was brought up by Florence (Farida Jalal). Florence's husband James (Dalip Tahil) was a professional killer. He was gunned down by the police in an encounter while on an assignment. Florence's child too dies due to lack of medical facilities on time. It was then that she spotted Raja on the steps of a temple and brought him home. Florence showered Raja with love and the pampered son grew up into a prankster who turned the entire neighbourhood upside down with his pranks.

It was during one of his pranks that he told his mother that he had committed a murder. Florence was taken aback. She couldn't believe that her son too was following her husband's footsteps. She was however relieved when Raja told her that it was one of his pranks.

Raja had three friends, Gullu (Gulshan Grover), Deepak (Satyajeet) and Murari (Rakesh Bedi). Raja was a good student who did not take down injustice and this led to quite a few fights in the college premises. Raja loved Priya (Karisma Kapoor) who was Inspector Chauhan's (Ranjeet) younger sister.

Raja introduced Priya to his mother who immediately approved of his choice. But fate had other things in store for the m other and the son. A girl committed suicide on the Christmas Eve party and during the chase and the scuffle that followed Raja accidently killed the Professor (Tej Sapru). Later the hostel's gatekeeper (Javed) too is killed and once again it is Raja who is the prime suspect. Thereafter, three murders take place one after another and the blame of all the three murders falls on Raja.

During the investigations Inspector Chauhan closes in on Raja and arrests him. Florence is shattered. Raja pleads innocence but his pleas fall on deaf ears. It is then that he escapes from the jail with inspector Chauhan hard on his heels.

Ultimately Raja succeeds in proving himself innocent. The beloved son of Florence thus reunites with his mother.
