“DANA PAANI” is the story of the eternal search for livelihood, search, by men from all strata of society, by humans from all levels of this vast and maddening world. Our story deals with this search and brings to Bombay our hero “SATYU” with his sister “GAURI” and their mother. They have an elder brother “GAUTAM” staying in the city who came to study law and become a lawyer. He got married here and it is in his house “SATYU” and family take shelter but Alas, big city life erodes human values as the two brothers who used to stay together in the village find it difficult to see eye to eye and the younger brother, mother and sister are thrown on the cruel streets of Bombay. Fate intervenes in the form of “CHANDA” befriend “SATYU” an luckily they have a roof over their head.
“SATYU” who has his name defines is a lover of truth and hence cannot stick to any job where he has to speak lies. He becomes a taxi driver with the help of “CHANDA”, but his earnings are not enough to pay back the loan for the deposit of his room. The mother also starts preparing “ACHAR” and the younger sister gets a job in a beauty parlor. All seems to be going well but alas, the younger sister “GAURI” has been duped by the slum lord Mr. Kutty who blackmails her and supplies her to a government official, to get his own job done. The younger sister cannot comprehend what has happened and undergoes a terrible trauma and when she is blackmailed into getting her brother released from the jail, she commits suicide.
