She was but the daughter of a poor man, but a man of learning who had taught her the true great heritage of our land from the Ramayan to the works of Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi.


She was enlightened, beautiful and spirited. She dared to take up a challenge of wits with none other than the old Zamindar, a most powerful strong-willed man. She won the challenge. The Zamindar, a man of noble spirit, decide to make her his daughter-in-law by marrying her to his hot-tempered second son. 


Alas! Fate struc her a disastrous blow. The Zamindar's second wife, a cruel, pretige-conscious woman tricked the young brode on her wedding day and made her take the marriage vows with the helpless, imbeccile elder son of the Zaminder by his first wife. But the young girl was a gemof Indian womanhood. She knew that once she walked round the sacred fire, the marriage vows were forever. While her heart-broken father pleaded with her to withdraw from the trickery of this wedding, she refused, and accepted the half-witted youth as her husband. 

With a heavy heart she began the task pf making a normal human being out of her husband. She not only succeded in this but also made him a great scholar. The Zamindar asaw this miracle and was thrilled. 

Fate struck again, -this time harder- The Zamindar's second son, a ruthless tyrant who had thrived on his step-brother's helplessness, now realised that he had a formidable enemy in his brother's wife. He conspired with his mother to drive her out. THe Zamindar was heart-broken and lay on his death-bed.....
