Born on 25 July 1920 in Travancore, Krishnan Kutty Nair was an accomplished dancer before he made the transition to films. He was the co-director of Nritya Darpan and the School of Indian Classical Dancing, YWCA, Bombay. His first foray into Hindi cinema was with Filmistan’s Leela (1947) directed by D N Pai and starring Shobha, Kanu Roy and Agha. He also choreographed O P Dutta’s 1948 superhit Pyar Ki Jeet. The songs composed by Husnlal Bhagatram attained great popularity. He would work with Husnlal Bhagatram’s songs again in Bari Behen (1949). Other films were Do Sitare (1951), Kishore Sahu’s Kali Ghata (1951) and Mayurpankh (1954), Vasant Painter’s Patit Pawan (1955), Shuk Rambha (1953) and Naya Ghar (1953).

He toured and performed in Europe and the UK. He was also a member of the Indian delegation to China in 1955. He also visited Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) at the invitation of the Sri Lankan and Indian governments.
