The Irani sisters became household names in the 1950s as child stars. Their curly hair and expressive eyes made them memorable till date.
The eldest of the three Irani sisters, Daisy Irani was born in a Parsi family on 17 June 1950 in Bombay. Acting in movies from a very young age, she achieved a lot of fame in the 1950s and 1960s. Her prominent movies include Bandish (1955), Ek Hi Raasta (1956), Naya Daur (1957), Hum Pancchi Ek Daal Ke (1957), and Do Ustad (1959).
The Irani sisters got so popular that it is said that scripts were rewritten to increase the screen time of these children and they would also be featured in the promos of the movies. Incidentally, they would often play the roles of little boys and be clad in shorts and shirt.
Daisy got married at a young age to the screenwriter KK Shukla, after which she stayed away from the limelight. Kati Patang (1971) was her last movie in this phase. She devoted herself to her family and children and dabbled in theatre for a while. After the death of her husband, she started acting again and worked in some TV serials such as Dekh Bhai Dekh (1997) and movies such as Aastha (1997), Kya Kehna (2001) and Shararat (2003).
She also acted in her nephew Sajid Khan’s movie Housefull (2010) and her niece Farah Khan ‘s film Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012).
Despite the fame she achieved as a child artiste, her past cannot be seen only through rose-tinted glasses. She had a traumatic upbringing as she revealed in 2018 that she had been raped by her guardian at the age of 6. Yet she came to terms with this trauma, and went on to bring smiles to film audiences all over India.
