Petite village-belle Ramila's playfulness is mistaken for lack of character. No one makes allowance for his or her ward to get associated with her. This results in Ramila seeking, more and more company of old flame Rajan but he never gives her any lift. Jaggu who has as soft corner for Ramila and an old score to settle with his rival Rajan, frames him into a murder which actually is his own doing. The whole thing takes place the very day Rajan's mother is widowed and he becomes a destitute. Scared of the frame-up, Rajan runs from the village and seeks asylum with Rekha, another village-belle hailing from a nearby village.

On the same fatal night, a terrible storm engulfs Rajan's village and the inmates are forced to flee, leaving behind the dead body of Ramila's father. Circumstance leads Rajan's mother and Ramila, who are brought together after the storm, to a gypsy clan, whose chieftain offers them to join them. Subsequently Jaggu, too, joins the same clan.

Mother's musical call is the string that invariably draws Rajan from Rekha's haunt to the gypsy camp every evening.

Rajan, eventually, is caught up in a love triangle, formed by Ramlila and Rekha, who, perchance, are by now good friends, whereas Rajan's only passion is to find out separated mother. Many a tricky situation, which is the work of Jaggu, prevent Rajan from his union with his mother.

hat is the culmination of Jaggu's struggle, whether Rajan and mother unite and who out of Ramila and Rekha succeeds in winning over Rajan, are questions answered on the silver screen in "Awara Ladki".
