Ram Gopal Sharma, popular as Saraswati Kumar Deepak, was a lyricist, screenplay writer, poet and dubbing specialist. 

Born on 7 July, 1918, the first song he penned was Dheere se kadam badhata chal for the film Zaban (1943). Penning lyrics for Raj Kapoor’s maiden production Aag (1948), Kahin ka deepak was one of the songs he wrote.

He was invited to write songs mainly for historical and religious films. Films that he penned songs for include the N T Rama Rao starrer Pandav Banvas (1973); Lav-Kush (1967); the Guru Dutt-Mala Sinha starrer Suhagan (1954); the hit Boot Polish (1954) featuring Kumari Naaz, Ratan Kumar and David Abraham; and the B R Chopra directorial Afsana (1951). 

He also penned the dialogues for Lav-Kush (1967). Directed by S N Tripathi, the film revolves around the epic Ramayan, wherein, pressured by his subjects, King Ram accuses his wife, Sita, of infidelity and banishes her. After attempting to take her own life, Sita gives birth to twin boys, Lav and Kush, who become adept at warfare and eventually battle their father’s forces. The film starred Ashim Kumar, Jayshree Gadkar, and Babloo

In addition to his work as a lyricist, he also dubbed songs and dialogues for approximately 25 films made in regional languages.

Ram Gopal Sharma, also known as Saraswati Kumar Deepak, passed away on 8 July, 1986.
