Raghunath Shrikhande
Film editor Raghunath Shrikhande is known for films such as Ghayal (1951), Aas (1953), Narsi Bhagat (1957), Ek Saal (1957), Dharkan (1972), and Do Musafir (1978). He worked most often with director Devendra Goel.
Ghayal, which is one of the earliest films he edited in 1951, was a drama genre film directed by Ramchandra Thakur. Featuring Geeta Bali, Sulochana Chatterjee, and Nand Kishore, the story of the film revolved around amateur boxer Ajay who is falsely convicted of the murder of his brother. With the help of three fellow convicts, he breaks out of prison and confronts the man responsible for the heinous crime against his family.
In 1953, he edited Aas, the Devendra Goel directorial starring Kamini Kaushal, Shekhar, and Om Prakash. A romance film, it told the tale of a woman ruled by the vagaries of destiny.
Narsi Bhagat (1957), the Devendra Goel-directed biopic which he edited, starred Shahu Modak, Radhakrishan, and Pratima Devi. It narrated the life of Narsi Mehta, born a poor mute boy, in a Brahmin family of Junagadh (Saurashtra) in the 15th century, and his metamorphosis into a living saint, and a torch-bearer of social revolution.
Shrikhande edited the romantic drama Ek Saal in 1957, directed by Devendra Goel and starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala in lead roles. The film told the story of a father of a dying girl who hires a conman to make his dying daughter’s last year a happier one. The film was a critical and commercial success; it was also the first film in a string of box-office hits that Madhubala starred in between 1958 and 1962.
In 1972, he edited Dharkan, featuring Mumtaz, Roopesh Kumar, and Achala Sachdev. Directed by Devendra Goel, it belonged to the genre of action and adventure. An adventure story, it began with a stranger knocking on Deepak's door claiming to be looking for work, but whose pursuers brand him a thief. Deepak decides to return home and claim his inheritance and takes the stranger, Kewal Sharma, with him. During the train journey, Deepak disappears and Kewal Sharma impersonates him when he arrives at the station.
Do Musafir, which he edited in 1978, featured Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Ashok Kumar, Prem Chopra and Pran. Directed by Devendra Goel, the drama film told the story of a businessman who believes he has lost his child, Viki, when he falls into the sea, during a fishing trip. However, Shambhu, a poor fisherman, finds a child and brings him up as his own.
