Cinematographer, Producer, Director and Writer, R D Pareenja was born on 12 September 1913 in Amritsar, Punjab. He joined the film industry in 1931 as an assistant cameraman and worked in films like Miya Bibi (1936), Mamta (1936), Achhut Kanya (1936), Janma Bhoomi (1936), Jeevan Naiya (1936), and Vachan (1938).
Later, he worked as the chief cameraman with Bombay Talkies from 1939 and shot films like Kangan (1939), Bandhan (1940), Jhoola (1941), Punarmilan (1940), Naya Sansar (1941), Kismet (1943), etc. He also produced and directed films like Sona Chandi (1946), Tara (1949), and Daaka (1959). In 1943, he founded his own production company, New Bombay Theatres Ltd.
He also worked as a story and screenwriter for Filmistan when he joined Filmistan in 1942.
