Murugadasa was a journalist-turned-film maker who directed several films. His well known films were Markandeya (1935 – debut film), Bhakta Ramadasa (1935), Paduka Pattabhishekam (1936), Sundaramurthy Nayanar (1937), Bhakti (1940), Urvashi Sahasam (1940), Venuganam (1941), Nandhanar (1942) and Gnanasoundari (1948).
He was also the co-owner of Karthikeya Studio at Madras.
