Cinemaazi wishes celebrated actress-filmmaker Aparna Sen a happy birthday. The daughter of noted critic Chidananda Dasgupta and Supriya Dasgupta, she made her film debut at the age of 15 in Satyajit Ray's Teen Kanya (1961). She returned to cinema with Mrinal Sen's Akash Kusum (1965) and went on to become a leading star in Bengali cinema for the next three decades, appearing in many successful films like Baksha Badal (1970), Memshaheb (1972), Basanta Bilap (1973), Alor Thikana (1974), Nidhiram Sardar (1976), Mohonar Dike (1984), Ekanto Apon (1987), Ek Din Achanak (1989), Mahaprithibi (1992), Unishe April (1994) and many more. She made her directorial debut with the acclaimed 36 Chowringhee Lane in 1981. Since then, she has established herself as one of the leading auteurs in Bengali cinema with films like Paroma (1984), Sati (1989), Yugant (1995), Paromitar Ek Din (2000), and Mr and Mrs Iyer (2002). She has won eight National Awards and the Padma Shri in 1986. Her daughter Konkona Sen Sharma is also a noted actress and filmmaker.
