Tirchhi Topiwale (1998)

Oberoi and Mehra are childhood friends and business partners. Oberoi, stationed in Bangalore, has two daughters Shikha and Sanam. Mehra has one son, Amit. Mehra's wife passed away when Amit was a child, but before her death Oberoi had promised her that Shikha would marry Amit. After her death, Mehra shifted to Canada, where Amit grew up... a rich man's spoilt son! But Mehra's heart longed for his country, and so he returned to India with Amit, and established his business in Mumbai. Amit started attending college. But since Mehra had recently shifted to Mumbai, the two families had yet not met or seen each other!

Amit is chosen to represent his college in the 'All India Youth Festival' being held in Ooty. His father tells him to go to Ooty via Bangalore; where he can attend Shikha's birthday, see his would be bride and also meet her parents. When he lands up in Bangalore, Amit discovers that Shikha loves a boy called Anand. Unknown to both the parents who are adamant in fulfilling the vow given to Amit's mother, Amit steps aside. This endears him to both Shikha and Anand, and he and Anand become good friends.

At the same time, due to certain developments, Amit and Sanam (the younger sister of Shikha), develop a dislike for each other. Shikha and Sanam also go to Ooty to participate in the Festival, as also Amit and Anand. In Ooty, the dislike between Amit and Sanam grows. But as the story unfolds this dislike turns into love!! 

Now the dilemma facing these two couples is how to tell their parents that Amit loves and wants to get married to Sanam, not to Shikha. They decide that as soon as they return to Bangalore, the'll tell their parents the reality of the situation! But when they reach Bangalore, on Oberoi's Silver Wedding Anniversary, it is publicly announced that Shikha is to get married to Amit. And according to their horoscopes, the engagement is tomorrow and the wedding on the next day! This news throws the kids in total disarray. At that moment if they tell their parents the reality, then undoubtedly they would be ruining a sacred vow and their parent's happiness! At the same time they don't want to ruin their own lives by letting Amit marry Shikha who loves Anand and Sanam who loves Amit! 

Before they can think of a way out, the marriage day arrives! And now it is time for the bride and groom to take the 'pherey'!! Can they do something at this late stage?
