Shyam, a rich man’s son Ishrat a poor painter are bosom friends. When Ishrat finds out that Alka, a social-butterfly is trying to trap Shyam in her viles he pretends to be in love with Alka. Shyam decides to go out of the way of Ishrat and infuriates Alka. One day Shyam visits the studio of Ishrat in his absence and picks up the painting of Pelu. (Kashmiri girl with whom Ishrat has secretly fallen in love) and leaves for Bombay without meeting Ishrat. 

In Bombay with a view to avoiding marriage, Shyam tells his uncle that he is already in love with the girl in the TASVEER and goes to Kashmir. But when he meets the girl, Pelu, in real-life he falls in love with her seriously. Thakore Baba, Pelu’s grandfather, is averse to her meeting any man from the city. This is due to the fact that twenty years ago, Pelu’s mother had married a man from the city who had betrayed her.

However, through a series of incidents, Baba gets convinced of Shyam’s sincerity and Pelu and Shyam are now happily married. On the night of the Wedding Party in Bombay, Ishrat turns up and is shocked to find that his friend has married the woman he was secretly in love with. Later on, Alka comes to see Shyam.

Shyam insists that Alka should marry his friend who he thinks loves her intensely. Alka agrees to Shyam’s request only if he gives her the Diamond Necklace the family heirloom and to which Pelu is deeply attached. Shyam is forced to steal the necklace and hand it over to Alka. But this is seen by Pelu who misunderstand and leaves her husband writing a letter to Monu Uncle that since she has been a misfit in the elite society of Bombay she has gone back to Baba, tracking with her the Diamond Necklace as a memento. Shyam confesses to Monu Uncle that it was he who had given the necklace to Alka. This is overhead by  Ishrat who goes to Alka’s house and in a showdown forcibly takes the necklace away from her.

It is winter in Kashmir and the entire region is covered with snow. Shyam now comes to Kashmir and meets Pelu, Baba turns up with a gun and fires it in midair and tells Shyam that if he had not been Pelu’s husband he would have killed him there and then. But Shyam is also desperate and forcibly drags Pelu away witch him. Baba fires again.

Due to these gunshots, the snow on the mountain top gives way and a snow avalanche starts. All there of them are trapped in nature’s furry Act the risk of his life Shyam saves Baba. Ishrat has also come up here and saves Pelu from certain death. But in doing so he himself is crushed under heavy snow boulders.

When the avalanche has abated, Shyam and Baba bring Ishrat out. He returns the diamonds necklace to Pelu and dies carrying with him the secret of his love for Pelu.

When the dark clouds of tragedy have passed Shyam and Pelu are once again united in their true love for each other.
