'Rama O Rama' is a cry, a plea, to the Lord from the oppressed. This is a story of the poor, a story which exploits and unveils many situations, when the underprivileged are pitted against the privileged.
'Rama O Rama' begins with:
"Children are little stars, in the eyes of the parents, children are the incarnation of God, children the destiny, the future of the Nation". Yet there is a different truth to all these beautiful verses.
And that truth is, about those innocent and helpless children, who are left to beg on the road side, by their parents, children who are sold by their parents, to feed their habits of drugs and drinks.
These children with a hut hearts cry out, "Rama O Rama, what kind of world you have made, I take your name with a plea."
Sonu (Aasif) and Monu (Raj Babbar) are two brothers. Sukhiya (Gulshan Grover) is their step-father, who compels them to beg. One day Rai (Raza Murad) buys Monu and takes him away, both the brothers are separated.
Both are brought up in different environments and these environments, have telling effects on their lives.
Both the brothers grew up, Monu becomes (Sandeep Rai) and Sonu becomes (Ricky).
Another family enters this story. Hema (Kimi Katkar), John D'Souza (Pran), Mary (Shammi), Johnny (Shiva) and three sisters (Vaishaki, Prabha and Shaila).
John D'Souza is a driver, in the Roadways, getting a salary of Rs. 1000/- a month. Mary looks after the household. Johnny is a motor mechanic in a garage. None of the sisters are married. The whole family is living happily on a small income.
Hema meets Ricky and they both fall in love. John D'Souza and his family meets and approves Ricky. All are happy. Between this happiness comes Sandeep Rai (Raj Babbar) who is the elder brother of Ricky (Aasif) and incidentally falls in love with Hema.
Sandeep comes to know that Ricky and Hema are in love, but he is used to obtaining anything, which he likes. He shows a grand dream to John D'Souza's family to win Hema.
If Hema says 'Yes' then this dream will come true - otherwise?
'Rama O Rama' is an answer to this question mark.
