"Aaaaaaa........h! It was a scream. A scream of abject terror, horror, misery........ and guilt.

Lata (Sridevi), a classical dancer, also lone heir to a vast inheritance, was declared medically insane. Mad! out of guilt she felt. Sita (Poonam Dhillon) her sister had jumped off a cliff, leaving behind a haunting thought to say that she, Lata, was the cause of her death.

Now! There was hope for Lata's recovery in the form of a honest factory worker  called Arjun (Vinod Khanna) who had rescued Rai Bahadur (Saeed Jaffery), Lata's father, from being robbed and kidnapped. Arjun now put himself out to try and bring Lata back to the reality from which she had retreated so long ago, before she reached the point of no return. But.........Arjun had something to hide !

Karan (Jackie Shroff), was in love with Lata but he knew what he was and he was conscious of it. What was he after all ? An orphan with a widowed mother taken under the sheltering wing of Mr. Rai Bahadur ? He was a honest policeman who knew his place. He too had something to hide, and guard at all costs......his dream, his fantasy, his illusion - his love for Lata.

Who was Arjun? What was his hidden past? Would Karan ever declare his love? Would he let Arjun be the victor in the fight for Lata's love?......This was the Great Mahabharat of love.

But...........would Lata live to see the victor ?
