Mohabbat (1997)

Gaurav Kapoor (Sanjay Kapoor), is the son of industrialistMadanlalKapoor (SaeedJaffery) and Geeta (Farida Jalal). A dynamic personality, sophisticated, cultured, and workaholic. He has a younger sisterRoshni (Dimple Ghosh), whom he loves very much. One day Gaurav meets Shweta Sharma (Madhuri Dixit), a beautiful, bubbly teenager who is his sister's best friend, and falls in love with her at first sight. As days pass by the love grows and so grows the longing for her. He thinks about her whenever he is alone, he dreams of her yet he keeps his thought and dreams to himself he does not want to share it with anyone for he is introvert. He learns that she wants to be a singer and he instructs famous music teacher (Bob Bramhabhatt) to teach her, he promotes her career, he sends her beautiful yellow flowers on every occasion but never comes in the open. Shweta waits for her flower-man to come so that she could see him even if it was just once and thank him for everything he had done for her. Gaurav is lost in his world of love, love for Shweta.  Shweta does not have parents but loving brother (FarooqShaikh). One day Gaurav is attacked by group of street fighters (Shiva) they would have killed him if Rohit Malhotra (Akshay Khanna) would not come in time and saved him. Gaurav is very grateful to him and learns that Rohit comes from a very poor background. Yet was full of life. He had only his widow mother (SulbhaArya), back in village, who was waiting for the day when her son would get job and earn in this big city. A bond of friendship springs up between the two, a friendship which no matter what happens would even break and with time passing by grow more stronger. At last, Rohit gets a family; he is us to long for and a friend who was a brother to him.
There is Dr. Goel (TejSapru) who again is very good friend of Madanlal and well-wisher of the family. He brings the marriage proposal for Roshni of his another good friend Kewal Singh Dhillon's son Viren (AshwinKaushal) who is also a Doctor. Roshni and Viren are married with the blessing of everyone.
One day Shweta meets Rohit and Rohit falls head over heels in love with her. Shweta's heart also misses a beat when she meets this handsome young man. Rohit woos her and Shweta cannot hold it back any longer. Both falls in love Rohit goes and mad with joy at least he has got his lady love.
One day comes when both friends learn about the cruel twist of destiny that they are in love with the same girl. Both want to sacrifice their love for the sake of each other for friendship is more stronger than love.
Who does sacrifice? What is the fate of these two friends who are now rivals in love?
Who finally gets Shweta is the story of this love.
