Dharamdev was not only by name Dharama but he was actually "Dharamatama" i.e. a very helping person. He used to feel miserable over others' miseries and sorrows. Madhavi was in love with Mohan and as such he had fixed the marriage of his daughter with Mohan, who was the son of his friend, Murli, an advocate. One day Dharma's friend, who had become very poor, came to his house with his daughter. Dharma not only gives monetary help to his friend, but makes him his partner in business. But this friend turns out to be a real crook and cheats Dharma. Dharma comes to know about this and gives him 24 hours' notice to refund the money, which he was supposed to deposit with the Government treasury.
Dharmadev had one habit that he used to write everything in his diary. This incident also he wrote in his diary. As he was going out for some work, his crook friend along with Murli, gets Dharma killed with the help of Dharma's Manager, Raju. As Dharma's friend was the partner, he takes over the business and gets his flat auctioned, because Dharma's friend Murli had kept the full property of Dharma in his son's name Mohan.
Before leaving the house, suddenly Madhavi saw her father's diary, and as she was going through it, she comes to know about her father's friend, who actually was the murderer. She takes that diary to Mohan's father, Murli and shows it to him. Murli reads the diary and gives it to that crook friend, of Dharma-who happens to be in the next room. He tries to burn the diary but Madhavi who realises that Murli is also linked with that crook friend, and snatches the diary and runs. But Mohan follows Madhavi and takes the diary from her and throws to his father. The diary was burnt by them. They got Madhavi arrested on the false allegations of beating them. Madhavi was put behind the bars for one year.
In the meantime, Mohan and Dharma's crook friend's daughter get married. Madhavi takes an oath that she will punish Mohan, her fiance and her father's killer.
