MASTKALANDAR-is he who doesn't bother for his comforts and sorrows but keeps on stepping forward.

Mastkalandar, is he who is strength for timids and messiah for the oppressed ones, and all these qualities are carried by our today's Mastkalandar 'Shanker' - Shanker dada (Dharmendra).

When Rai Saheb's (Shammi Kapoor) son got married without Rai Saheb's consent, he threw him out of his house - but now after a decade or so he is impatient for his Grandson who is coming to him with his widow Mother. Though Rai Saheb is thrilled with this news, his relative Prem (Prem Chopra) is not and he finds ways to eliminate him as he has an eye with his Grandfathr's address, but fate has planned the other way and he losses the address. It is here that poor Guddu (Ashutosh Thakur) encounters a drunkard Shanker, who has a body of steel but sweets in front of Guddu's dog 'Buzo' and of course Shanker has one more weakness, that is Prit Kaur (Dimple Kapadia) a liquor seller.

With the flow of time, Guddu and Shanker dada become insuperable but again fate has other designs in store and Guddu has to stay with his Grand Father Rai Saheb. Even the doors of Court could not help Shanker for Rai Saheb thinks that Shanker is nothing but a fraud, rowdy drunkard person whom he hates - but - when Guddu shows him the real side of Shanker who has looked after him so well and saved him from different calamities then only Rai Saheb sees the truth and goes to seek Shanker's forgiveness but by now Prem and Raja Saheb (Amrish Puri) have turned Guddu into a tool to export money from Rai Saheb. But for his dearest Guddu, Shanker can even throw his life into the jaws of death and of course a fearless, dynamic person like Shanker has to be a 'MASTKALANDAR'.
