Kalpana, not only owned a huge press and its publication, 'THE JEEVAN' Monthly, but also owned the heart of Benoy, the youthful editor of the paper. Benoy, for his age, was a greater writer and a rising poet. But he was to marry REKHA daughter of Major Bahadur, to please his ailing mother.

The first night and the poor Rekha faces a dis-interested husband. Her dreams of happiness are shattered, Benoy confesses to her "I love another woman and you can never have a place in my heart". Poor Rekha ... she bows to fate ... but does 'not feel beaten .... Someday she will have her man back ... Someday she will have a laugh at Madam fate. Benoy and Rekha promise to appear as an ideal pair before the world, otherwise they shall be ever strangers to each other.

To always remind them of this PLEDGE Rekha hangs a curtain in the room ... sort of partition ... only to be removed when she does so herself... The pledge ... things move on ... Benoy is happy romancing with Kalpana but Manohar the Manager of Kalpana resented all this as he too has designs on Kalpana. Whenever possible he tries to get a bite at Benoy but to no avail. Kalpana knows what happened on the first night of Benoy's marriage. And so she buys a prambulator to present to Rekha, in order to redicule her, Benoy does not want Kalpana and Rekha to meet. Kalpana insists. But Rekha plays the joke back. Kalpana leaves much humiliated and Benoy looks annoyed ... poor Rakha. She did not mean it though ........

To Kalpana, Bekha is definitely a bone in the chop. Benoy and Kalpana decide to elope to another place on the pretext of holding a "Poets Conference", whereas this Benoy and Kalpana's affair is already a big scandal in the city. Manohar adds a little more fuel into the burning fire. He informs Kedar, the elder brother of Benoy, about this projected elpopement, Kedar runs home to mother. There is a big hub-hub, Benoy while packing up is cornered .... He cannot reply to the questions ... Rekha hears all and comes to his rescue and lies "WHY STOP HIM". He is going on a professional visit he has asked me to follow him no sooner things are completed at the conference of which he will notify me in a letter. Benoy leaves much puzzled at this strange co-operation of Rekha

No news and no letter from Benoy. His mother is anxious. Kedar learn to suspect that Manohar gave him the right information. Rekha-her head bleeding feigns hapiness. A letter from her father arrives calling her at the. moment when she is being questioned if she has received any letter from Benoy. To save Benoy she again lies and says "This is his letter, he wants me".

At the station Kalpana is surprised to find Rekha. The "Poets Conference".... Kalpana introduces Rekha to the audience and further insists that Rekha should sing a poem, little suspecting that Rekha would turn out to be a ready match for her. Rekha falteringly begins to sing the unfinished poem of Benoy which he has forgotten in his home before his departure for the Poets Conference. Rekha surprises all the poets by her sweet voice and perfect composition. Benoy is most puzzled...., how did Rekha complete his incomplete poem. He begins to feel interested in Rekha.... Kalpana is all fury, Manohar pursuades her to leave and come with him....

Kalpana and Manohar arrive at a Dak Bung low, where they meet Jang Bahadur. Manohar and Jang Bahadur become good friends. They find common interest in SHIKAR. The one prefers animals for his game and the other women. Jang Bahadur invites these to his place. There again Manohar and Kalpana find Rekha and Benoy to welcome them... Benoy is a changed man now, whereas Manohar too changes a liltle as he finds Rekha more attractive than Kalpana. Kalpana orders Benoy to report at once at the office and complete the "SPECIAL MARRIAGE NUMBER", while Manohar poisons Jang Bahadur against Benoy telling him all what Benoy is to Kalpana, and vice, versa, further adds "IT WAS HELL FOR REKRA AT BENOY'S.... Jang Bahadur shows Benoy the door. Rekha comes to know all about this and wants to follow her husband. To Manohar, Kalpana and Benoy out of the way, this is an opportunity. He offers Rekha a lift in his car as far as the station ... but he steers the other way....

Manohar kidnaps Rekha, Benoy is turned out in disgrace. God alone knows what will he do to himself. Kalpana is still kicking. Such is the knotty problem, come and we shall solve it for you on the screen.
