Rama and Renu are the two unmarried daughters of their old father. Narendra is the son of a rich millionaire who is slated to marry Rama, but the marriage was arranged without his prior knowledge. He decides to don a disguise and come to the village to have a look at his future bride.

In a strange turn of events, Narendra he mistakes Renu for Rama and they fall in love with each other. The mistake is realised only after Rama’s wedding with Narendra. As a result of this, the wedding is a disaster for Renu, who blames God for her misfortunes and is subsequently banished from the house. A dazed Renu boards a train where she is befriended by a dance troupe. Jagdish, the leader of the dance troupe, is sympathetic towards Renu and trains her to become a popular dancer. But Renu is continuously harassed by a police inspector who has been set after her by her father. To escape the attentions of the law, she is forced to pretend to be married to Jagdish. When Rama learns of this she asks Renu to come back home. Rama, who is heavily pregnant reconciles with Renu, but faints under the strain. The doctor asks Narendra to make the terrible choice between saving the child or the mother. But when Renu reconciles with God, a miracle occurs and both are saved.

This musical romance marked the film debut of Dilip Kumar in the role of Jagdish.
