Ramesh was not only a village school teacher but was a reformer too. He had resolved to turn his village into an ideal one. The old Zamindar was against his activities and demand for justice as he wanted to marry Geeta-a young and innocent village girl. Geeta many a times used to trouble Ramesh but Ramesh smilingly tolerated her mischevious behavior and this made innocent Geeta feel that Ramesh loved her. Zamindar, through his munimji forced Geeta's mother for Geeta's hand or else he threatened to turn them out from the village. Ramesh opposed at this and promised Geeta's mother to clear her debt to Zamindar. But destiny fixed a different path. Shobha - a girl from the city known to Ramesh used to correspond with him regularly. She and Ramesh both were equally interested in literature and this had brought them nearer and they had begun to like each other. Shobha came to the village and successfully induced Ramesh to go with her to the city. Zamindar had an all clear way now and besides tricky munimji to help him through. Zamindar married Geeta. Ramesh lost in city life one day remembered his promise to Geeta's mother. He ran to the village with money but it was too late. Geeta now a faithful wife refused to talk to him. Zamindar had realized his mistake. He restlessly passed his days and ultimately fell sick. Shobha had completely captured Ramesh. England returned Romeo Randhir madly interested in Shobha was neglected and Shobha's marriage with Ramesh was fixed, and there in the village poor Geeta was widowed...
