It is a wild and wacky story of two sisters- Anju and Manju. When Anju and Manju were 6 months old a maid servant at the "Haveli" (Aruna Irani) kidnapped Manju, and disappeared forever; Tribhuvan (Anupam Kher), the uncle of Anju and Manju was summoned from the village. Tribhuvan's envious  eyes saw the immense wealth of his brother and hoped that one day, all of it, would be his. His wish comes true when acar accident sends his brother and bhabhi to their deaths. He then lets loose a reign of oppression and terror and neither his niece Anju (Sri Devi) nor the old family servitor, Dayal (Annu Kapoor) have the courage to protest...

Far away in a small basti Manju (Sri Devi) had grown into a lovely young woman. The school of hard knocks had taught her to face any situation in life. She danced on the stage for a living. Even at her tender age she had learnt that not respectability but cheating is the name of the game to get along in life.

Manju and Suraj (Sunny Deol) meet in a beer bar and it was love at first sight for them. Suraj's father Vishwanath (Saeed Jaffery) asks for Anju's hand from Tribhuvan for his son. Suraj thinks she's Manju and happily accepts. Now Tribhuvan and his sister-in-law Amba (Rohini Hattangidi) find no way out of this problem. They then plant to get married to Amba's nephew, Balma (Shakti Kapoor), who has been called from the village for this purpose. The moment he comes, Balma tries to molest Anju when he finds her alone. But Anju's dog Moti foils this attempts of Balma. Anju runs away from the 'Haveli'. When Tribhuvan and Amba set out to search for Anju they meet Manju by stroke of fate. In this way Manju comes to the 'Haveli'. And now begins the fitting answer to the reign of terror let loose by the evil trio.

Tribhuvan, Balma and Amba. Fate again takes Anju to the same slum where Manju used to live. The people of the slum and the taxi driver Jagu (Rajnikant) are baffled and sad at the transformation in her. Jagu thinks she's Manju and yet when he sees her changed self, begins to love her. And now begins the long, wild journey of mistaken identities.

-Did this journey of mistaken identities ever end?
-Did Anju and Manju ever meet each other. If they did when, where and how?
-Did Suraj and Jagu win their sweethearts?-What happened to Balma?

You'll find the answers to these and many other questions when you see.. "CHAAL BAAZ".
