Ram Daryani is known for directing several films from the 1930s till the 1960s. His directorials include Khun-e-Nahaq (1935), Sangdil Samaj (1936), Pratima (1936), Gentleman Daku (1937), Zamana (1938), Hindustan Hamara (1940), Pyas (1941), Dukh Sukh (1942), Kurbani (1943), Preet (1945), Doosri Shaadi (1947), Shravan Kumar (1946), Maa Ka Pyaar (1949), Bhai Bahen (1950), Tarana (1951), Paheli Shaadi (1953), Majboori (1954), Mumtaz Mahal (1957), and Chand Mere Aja (1960).
Directing approximately 24 films, he also produced some of his directorial such as Pratima (1936), Sangdil Samaj, and Gentleman Daku as well as Insaaf (1937), Bulldog (1937), Ghar Kii Izzat (1948), Bholi (1949), Majboori (1954), and Chand Mere Aja (1960).
Daryani’s Khun-E-Nahaq starred Feroze Dastur and Dadi Sarkari, while his Sangdil Samaj featured Sardar Akhtar and Padma Devi. The cast of his Gentleman Daku included Leela Chitnis, Kokila, Amirbai Karnataki, Yusuf Efendi, Majeed, and D Manek. Hindustan Hamara featured Jamuna, Padma Devi, Balasaheb Nandrekar, Gope, Hari Shivdasani, and Badri Prasad. Doosri Shaadi starred Mumtaz Shanti, Ranjit Kumari, and David Abraham. Daryani’s Bhai Bahen was made under the banner of Krishna Movies and had music direction by Shyam Sunder. The film starred Geeta Bali, Nirupa Roy, Prem Adib, Bharat Bhushan, Gope, Jeevan, and Cuckoo.
Perhaps his most popular film was Tarana, a romantic comedy film produced and written by K. S. Daryani, starring Madhubala and Dilip Kumar together for the first time, Tarana revolves around the titular character (Madhubala), a free-spirited village girl who falls in love with a visiting doctor (Kumar). On its release, the film emerged as one of the biggest box office hits of the year. Tarana received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, mostly for Madhubala and Kumar's onscreen chemistry, music and direction.
Paheli Shaadi starred Nargis, Bharat Bhushan, and Motilal, while in Majboori Daryani directed Balraj Sahni and Shyama. Mumtaz Mahal was a drama featuring Jairaj and Sheela Ramani along with Veena, Agha, and Nazir Kashmiri. Daryani’s Chand Mere Aja starred Bharat Bhushan and Nanda.
Ram Daryani’s brother Kumar Daryani was a writer and film producer, who wrote the screenplay for Tarana, Ghar Ki Izzat, Shravan Kumar, and Doosri Shadi.
