A popular actress of Hindi and Marathi films, Kamini Kadam was born as Manik Kadam in August 1933 in Bombay. She began her career in Marathi films under the name of Smita in the film Yere Maazya Maglya (dir. Bhalji Pendharkar, 1955). in 1958 she assumed the screen name Kamini Kadam and made her Hindi debut opposite Rajendra Kumar in the hit film Talaq (1958). She starred opposite Rajendra Kumar again in Santan (dir. Jyoti Swaroop, 1959) and Maa Baap (dir. V M Vyas, 1960). She starred alongside Karan Dewan and Shakila in the B R Panthulu directed School Master (1959) which was a remake of the Tamil film of the same name.  She starred with Shreekant in Miya Bibi Razi (dir. Jyoti Swaroop, 1960), and with Balraj Sahni and Chandrasekhar in Sapne Suhane  (dir. Kedar Kapoor, 1961). She was also the lead in the classic Marathi film Sudharlelya Baika (1965) directed by Prabhakar Nanajirao Nayak.

She passed away on 29 June 2000 in Pune.
