10 Oct 2011
Remembering the ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, who charmed generations with his moving ghazals and songs, on his death anniversary. A Padma Shri award winner, Singh hailed from Rajasthan and finally made his big entry with Mahesh Bhatt's Arth (1982). Some of his notable movie songs include Tum Ko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya (Saath Saath, 1982), Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh (Dushman, 1998), Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya (Sarfarosh, 1999), and Badi Nazuk Hai (Joggers Park, 2003). He revolutionized ghazals by shunning the traditional ways, bringing a wider audience, and was hugely responsible for mainstreaming ghazals post-1980s. Fans will always remember his unique style of performing and heart-rending voice. We thank him for his great contribution to the art.
