Cinemaazi remembers Govindrao Tembe on his death anniversay
An accomplished Hindustani classical musician, Govindrao Tembe had also dabbled in Marathi cinema in the 1930s. Born on 5 June, 1881, he learnt the harmonium on his own and later trained under Bhaskarbuwa Bakhale. He considered Ustad Alladiya Khan his guru. He achieved considerable success as a musicia, even performing for the Pope at one point. He also started his own company, the Shivraj Natak Mandali. He used to compose for Marathi dramas, and later transitioned to films as well. He composed for 10 Marathi films and also acted in 6 of them. He was the composer of the first Marathi talkie Ayoddhecha Raja (1932). Other films he worked in were Maya Machhindra (1932), Agnikankan (1932), Sinhagad (1933), Seeta (1934), Usha (1935), Pratibha (1937), Nand Kumar (1938), Saathi (1938), Krishna Sudama (1945). He also directed one film - Raj Mukut (1935). He passed away on this day in 1955. Cinemaazi pays tribute to him on his death anniversary.
