Cinemaazi celebrates 81 years of Chhamia, released on 31st August 1945. It was premiered at New West End, Bombay. Unusual to that period of time, Protima Dasgupta put on the role of director-producer in this massively successful film. The story involved the protagonist Chhamia, a poor girl, who was raised by a wealthy man. The film involves a love triangle between friends Ranjit-Chammia-Aziz. The cast included Begum Para, Dasgupta,Arif, Dixit, Gulab, David and a couple of dance numbers by Azuri. The superhit film also holds significance for the success of an actress turn director-producer in a male dominated industry on the basis of sheer capability and talent.
