Waman Bhonsle

Waman Bhonsle was born in a small village in Goa. He moved to Bombay in 1952 after he completed his matriculation. In search of employment, Bhonsle tried his hand at a number of activities before he joined D.N. Pai and Bombay Talkies as an apprentice. When Pai left the disintegrating Bombay Talkies to join Filmistan, Bhonsle followed him there as his assistant. Waman Bhonsle worked at Filmistan for over 20 years. In 1968, he received an opportunity to become an independent editor with Raj Khosla’s Do Raaste (1969).
After Do Raaste, there was no looking back for Bhonsle. Soon, he was the go-to editor for most films in the industry. Working with established filmmakers like Gulzar, Subhash Ghai, Sunil Dutt and Ravi Tandon, Bhonsle edited blockbusters like Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Inteqam (1969), Inkaar (1977), Mausam (1975), Aandhi (1975), Dostana (1980), Karz (1980), Hero (1983), Saudagar (1991) and Ghulam (1998). Though he retired in 2002, Waman Bhonsle is still remembered for his immense contribution to Indian cinema.
