Music composer Shambhu Sen hailed from an illustrious family of musicians. His father Jamaal Sen was also a music director of note. Shambhu Sen scored the music as well as wrote the lyrics for the film Mrig Trishna (1975), as well as for Banno (1987). His songs for Mrig Trishna were rendered by leading singers such as Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, and Asha Bhosle. Sun man ke meet more prem geet was sung by Lata, while Nav kalpanaa nav rup se rachanaa rachi jab naar ki was sung by Rafi. Nain thake was again a Lata rendition, while Aas ka jhoota was sung by Mehdi Hassan. Asha Bhosle rendered Saajan saajan mai karu while Madan Sen sang Kehi kaaran sundar hath jariyo

Shambhu Sen’s son, Sameer collaborated with his (Sameer’s) uncle Dilip to score music for several films becoming fairly successful as the Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen composer duo. Shambhu's son Lalit and Sameer's son Sohail are also active music composers. Shambhu Sen passed away on 13 January, 1998.
