Satish Rajwade studied at the Madhavrao Bhagwat English Medium High School, Vile Parle (East). He was a very mischievous kid and so, in order to get at least two hours of respite, his mother packed him off to a kid’s acting workshop. It was there that he found his true calling. After his schooling, he joined Mithibai College which was then the centre of theatre activity. Here, he acted in 75 one-act plays in Marathi, Hindi, English and Gujarati for which he bagged several awards, including the Indian National Theatre award for Best Actor in a Comic Role for Aambaa. This honour got him his first professional play Tur Tur directed by Kedar Shinde. But his first big break came when Mahesh Manjrekar and Mohan Wagh offered him the role of the deaf man in All The Best. Satish Rajwade did 890 shows of the play in both Marathi and English versions. Satish Rajwade then went on to play small roles in various Hindi films like Sanshodhan, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Nidaan, Vaastav and Josh. Soon, however, he realized that real cinema is made behind the camera and this made him take up editing; he actually wanted to become a cameraman but found editing more challenging. Satish Rajwade worked in the editing studios of B. R. Chopra without any salary for almost a year before making his directorial debut in 2000 with Mrugjal and later, as a director of several television serials.
