Nielesh Malkar is a writer and director known for his Konkani films Kantaar (2019) which addresses the theme of finding a purpose in life, and Soul Curry (2017) which is a subtle narrative about a father of four daughters obsessed with a yearning for a son, and the Rajasthani film MarudharMharoGhar(2014). 

He established a drama company called Shree Siddhivinayak Nirmit and started directing plays. His Marathi dramas include Vai Varsha Sade Satra, Vasuchi Sasu, and Var Parikxa. Getting introduced to senior director Anant Thakoor, he started assisting Thakoor in his documentaries and TV serials. With the company of Ekalavya Bhatia, he became a film and TV associate director. 

His independent work as director commenced with Parchayee. His story on which the film Parchayee is based, is about a strange woman who does not have children but is eager to become a mother at any cost. The film featured Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Seema Biswas, Yashpal Sharma and Ragini Sharma. A producer introduced Malkar to Michael Mascarenhas, and driven by his passion for films the production of the Konkani film Soul Curry commenced, which Malkar went on to direct. When directing a regional film is not a profitable venture, he salutes the passion and courage of producer Michael Mascarenhas. The story of Soul Curry is based on a saxophone player whose downfall has been depicted. A similar introduction to another producer landed him the opportunity to direct another Konkani film titled Kantaar. A Konkani musical, Kantaar propagates that life is like a song and we should live our lives by singing. Both these films featured Jackie Shroff as the main actor. The Rajasthani film Marudhar Mharo Ghar he directed is based on a Rajasthani guide who falls in love with an Australian tourist and solves the problems of the local people. Lonely Hearts – his English film, was screened at Cannes film festival in the year 2012. Written and directed by him, it deals with the wives who earlier used to perform sati by becoming bald and their travails. 

He has done music videos for top singers such as Ghulam Aliand Raja Hasana. Similarly, he has worked for singer Anup Jalota. Among the documentaries, he has done one on Saibaba. He has been the writer, administrator for three years at Balaji TV and has also been part of Contilo Films. He has also been on the jury for Sahyadri channel for which he has been honoured. Malkar has also done a reality show for Zee Yuva, a Marathi film Sampoorna and a Hindi film Bus Stop (2017). He has also created a music video for T-Series titled More Savare. 

Malkar owns Malkar Pictures Entertainment, a company which has been in the field for 15 years and has made TV and ad films, corporate films, commercials, outside productions, music videos, documentaries and feature films. His specialty is in creation, writing, direction and production. His earlier experience in drama helped him considerably.
