Multilingual playback singer Mohammed Aziz, also known as Munna Aziz, started off singing in restaurants, before he was noticed by music director Anu Malik. He went on to make his singing debut in the Bengali film Bouma (1986). Debuting in Hindi films with Amber (1984), he went on to render the Anu Malik-compositions Mard tangewala and Tambu mein bamboo in Mard (1985). Popular during the 70s and 80s, his well-known songs include Lal dupatta malmal ka, My name is lakhan, Main teri mohabbat mein, Aap ke aa jane se, Aajkal yaad kuchh and Dil le gayi teri bindiya. Some of the films he rendered playback for are Love 86 (1986), Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (1988), Tridev (1989), Chaalbaaz (1989), Khuda Gawah (1992), Vishwatma (1992), and Ek Rishta (2001). Lending voice to prominent actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Ajay Devgn, he sang multiple duets with singers such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Alka Yagnik

He was born Sayeed Mohammed Aziz-Un-Nabi on 2 July, 1954 in Calcutta. Involved with music all through his childhood, he pursued it professionally, bagging his first playback assignment for the film Bouma (1986). Moving to Bombay for better career opportunities, he debuted in Hindi film playback with Amber (1984) which had music composed by Sapan-Jagmohan. He gained fame singing two songs in Mard, which had music by Anu Malik. Mard tangewala, the title song of the film, became a super hit and made Aziz a name. He went on to render hit songs in 1985 such as Aate aate teri yaad aa gayi from Jaan Ki Baazi. Becoming a sought-after singer in the industry in that decade, he worked with well-known music directors such as Naushad, O P Nayyar, Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, R. D. Burman, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, Usha Khanna, Anu Malik, Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit, Ravindra Jain, Raamlaxman, Aadesh Shrivastava, and Nadeem-Shravan among others. Aziz sang more than 250 songs for Laxmikant Pyarelal. Rendering bhajans, Sufi devotional songs, and private albums as well as Odia film songs, he also performed in stage shows in India and abroad.

Mohammed Aziz passed away on 27 November, 2018 of cardiac arrest, aged 64.
