Deen Dayal Vyas was born on 25 July, 1921 in Sailana. A trained painter, he studied art initially at Maharaja’s School of Arts, Jaipur and later at Ukil’s School of Arts, Banaras. He later shifted to Bombay and became the art director for M & T Studios. The studio was previously known as Hind Studios and was owned by Nazir Ahmed Khan, but it burned down in the riots during Partition. His first film as an independent director was Kasturi (1954), directed by Vrajendra Gaur and starring Nimmi, Sajjan and Bipin Gupta. His other notable films were Vanjara (1954), Hasina (1955), Shanti Prasad Bakshi’s Mr Chakram (1955), and Hira Singh’s Lakhon Mein Ek (1955) and Keemat (1956).
