Noted lyricist Bharat Vyas penned the exquisite prayer song, Ae maalik tere bande hum as well as the paen to Nature - Yehkaun chitrakar hai. Popular especially in Hindi films in the 50s and 60s, he wrote the lyrics for several songs for films such as Bedard Zamana Kya Jane (1959), Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959), Sampoorna Ramayana (1961), Stree (1961), Purnima (1965), Mahabharat (1965), Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti(1967), Mata Mahakali (1968), and Bhagat Gora Kumbhar(1978). He was known for his association with renowned director V Shantaram for whom he penned lyrics for many memorable songs.He also directed a Hindi film, Rangila Rajasthan(1949), also writing the lyrics and composing three songs for the same.

He was born on 6 January, 1918 in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Acquiring a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Calcutta, he headed to Bombay after the completion of his education. He started his career in Hindi films penning lyrics for the film Duhaai (1943), for which he wrote all 9 songs. His work in Duhaai caught the attention of filmmaker W. Z. Ahmed, owner of Shalimar Pictures. Joining Shalimar, Vyas penned 12 songs for the film Prem Sangeet (1943). Shalimar’s biggest musical success Man Ki Jeet (1944) included two songs penned by Bharat Vyas which became big hits — Aye chand na itarana, aate hein mere sanyya. Vyas developed a close working relationship with composer Khemchand Prakash, writing for musicals like Bijli (1950), Muqaddar (1950), and Tamasha (1952). 

The 50s were a highly productive decade for Vyas as he worked with many leading filmmakers such as Bimal Roy, V Shantaram and Vijay Bhatt. He enjoyed an uninterrupted spell of success for two decades during which he wrote some of the most beautiful songs of films such as Chandralekha(1948), Parineeta (1953), Toofan Aur Diya (1956), Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957), Sahara (1958), and Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959). Among the early films he wrote song lyrics for are Sawan Aya Re, a 1949 Hindi romantic drama film, directed by Kishore Sahu, Aankhen (1950), Hamara Ghar(1950), the romantic comedy Tamasha (1952), and Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1954),

Among the many songs he penned are Aadha hai chandrama,Daulat ke jhoote nashe me jo choor, Nirbal se ladaai balwan ki, Aa laut ke aaja mere meet, Saanjh ho gai prabhu, Maine peena seekh liya, Tu chhupi hai kahan,Saanjh ho gai prabhu,Tere sur aur mere geet, Aadha hai chandrama, Jyot se jyot jagaate chalo, Jo ugta hai be dhalta hai, Jyot se jyot jagaate chalo, O nirdayee preetam, Tum mere maye teri, Jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi,Saranga teri yaad me,Kahe do koi na kare yahan pyar, Haan diwaana hoon maye, Rain bhaye so ja re panchhi, Dil ka khillona haye toot gaya and Mann ki gehrai, besides his most popular songs Ae malik tere bande hum and Ye kaun chitrakar hai. 

The Hindi film he directed, Rangila Rajasthan (1949), featured Bharat Bhushan, and Shama Dulari.

Bharat Vyas passed away on 4 July, 1982 in Bombay.
