A prolific lyricist, Anjum Jaipuri was active from the early 1950s, enjoying a successful career in primarily mythological and stunt films. Born on 15 June 1915, he worked in films like Veer Babruvahan (1950), Aladdin Aur Jaadui Chirag (1952), Sinbad the Sailor (1952), Miss Mala (1954), Toote Khilone (1954), Talwar Ka Dhani (1957), Jungle King (1959), Mujrim Kaun Khooni Kaun (1965), Duniya Hai Dilwalon Ki (1966), Deen Aur Imaan (1979) and more. Some of his notable songs include Dil de bhi liya dil le bhi liya (Annadata, 1952), Taaron ke palne mein jhoole chand hamara re (Shri Ganesh Mahima, 1950), Ye to kismat hai meri jaan varna (Duniya Hai Dilwalon Ki, 1966) and Nazar tu na lagaana (Usha Kiran, 1952).

One of the earliest films he worked in was Aladdin Aur Jadui Chirag (1952). Directed by Homi Wadia, it starred Mahipal, Meena Kumari, and S N Tripathi . An adventure fantasy, the film was a musical adaptation of Aladdin and the wonderful lamp. The magician, Hikmat, sends Aladdin, a young man, to search and bring him a magic lamp from a cave. Aladdin finds the lamp but refuses to hand it over to the magician because of which he abandons him. Made under the Basant Pictures banner, it had story, scenario and additional dialogue by J B H Wadia. The dialogues were written by Tejnath Zar. The music of the film was composed by S N Tripathi and Chitragupta. Besides Jaipuri, other lyricists included Pandit Chand, Shyam Hindi, and Ramesh Chandra Pandey, while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Shamshad Begum, Asha Bhosle and Chitragupta.

In 1954, he penned the lyrics for the comedy-mystery Miss Mala, which had music scored by Chitragupt. Directed by Jayant Desai, the film starred Kishore Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, and Agha. The story revolved around a psychiatrist Dr. Miss Mala, who protects the identity of an amnesia patient accused of murder while attempting to recover his memory. It was a musical copy of Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945). He penned the lyrics for songs such as Manzil kahan meri gulshan kahan mera sung by Kishore Kumar, Naachti jhoomti muskurati aa gayi pyar which was a duet rendered by Geeta Dutt and Kishore Kumar, and Chori chori aana na khidki tale tum sung by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi

In 1959, he worked on the adventure film Jungle King, a Masood directorial, starring Shah Agha, Haidar Ali, and Sheila Ramani. It had music by Bipin Babul. The songs he penned included Pihu pihu koyal bole and Banke bahar aayi hu rendered by Geeta Dutt, Is pyar ki basti me sung by Babul and Suman Kalyanpur, Aayegi khushi sung by Uma Devi and Babul, Dil thame hue baithe hai sung by Meera Shiraz, Khurshid Bawra, Babul and Uma Devi, and Ye hasin rut ye hawa by Babul and Suman Kalyanpur. 

He next penned lyrics for the 1975 film Biwi Kiraya Ki, a comedy-drama directed by Ajit Kumar. The film’s cast included Sona Mastan Mirza, Indra Kumar, and Jagdeep. It had music by H Parashuram. The Jaipuri-penned songs include Dil tera hai ye zindagi teri sung by Asha Bhosle, Tamannayen pareshan which was a duet by Asha Bhosle and Mukesh, Saja kar husn apna sung by Krishna Kalle, Dekho ji ghata sawan ki by Suman Kalyanpur, and Baankey sipahiya ji sun lo rendered by Meenu Purushottam

Anjum Jaipuri passed away on 15 July 1990.
