Cinemaazi remembers veteran classical vocalist and playback singer Saraswati Rane on her death anniversary. Born in Miraj, Maharashta into a family with a long and great music tradition, her father Ustad Abdul Karim Khan was the founder of the Kirana Gharana of Indian classical music. Under the guidance of her elder siblings Sureshbabu Mane and Hirabai Barodekar, she trained in different Hindustani classical forms from maestros like Ustad Natthan Khan and Professor B R Deodhar. Starting her career at an early age of eleven, she went to become one of top rated artist performing for All India Radio. Considered amongst the first few female playback singers, she has lent her voice to many notable Hindi and Marathi films such as Payachi Dasi(1941), Ramrajya(1943), Jeena Seekho(1946),Sargam(1950), Bhumika(1977) among others. After a popular music career as a radio artist she retired from public performances around the 1990s and performed jugalbandi vocal recitals along with her sister Hirabai Barodekar leaving an inspiring trend for upcoming generation of musicians.
